A traditional religious and cultural festival honoring the spiritual legacy of Rani Rashmoni through devotion, rituals, and community participation

Kapotak Utsav is a significant annual religious and cultural festival organized by Jaganmata–Ramakrishna Sevashram Sangha, located at Charanbandabati (Sahidpally), Majherchar, Kalyani, in the Nadia district of West Bengal. Closely associated with the birthplace and bathing ghat of Lokmata Rani Rashmoni, the Sevashram holds deep historical and spiritual importance. The festival is observed with devotion, discipline, and rich traditional practices that reflect Bengal’s age-old religious heritage.

The Kapotak Utsav is generally celebrated in January and spans multiple days, featuring daily worship, religious observances, and cultural programs. The festival includes sacred rituals such as Mangala Arati, special pujas, chanting of hymns, recitation of scriptures, and devotional music. A notable highlight of the celebration is the observance of important tithis connected with Rani Rashmoni, reinforcing her enduring legacy of faith, charity, and social welfare.

Alongside religious ceremonies, the festival hosts cultural programs including spiritual discourses, folk and classical performances, kirtan, and devotional songs. Eminent monks, scholars, artists, and devotees from different parts of West Bengal participate, creating a spiritually vibrant atmosphere. Community involvement remains central to the festival, with volunteers actively managing arrangements, hospitality, and service activities.

Special pujas dedicated to various deities and observances tied to the Bengali calendar are also conducted during the festival period. Mass gatherings, collective prayers, and offerings reflect the spirit of unity and devotion that define Kapotak Utsav. Thousands of devotees visit the Sevashram during this time to seek blessings and participate in the celebrations.

Beyond its religious significance, Kapotak Utsav serves as a living platform for preserving traditional values, spiritual education, and cultural continuity. The festival strengthens communal bonds and highlights the Sevashram’s ongoing role as a center of faith, service, and heritage. Through Kapotak Utsav, the ideals of devotion, humility, and service to humanity continue to inspire generations of devotees.
